One of the many benefits of traveling with the Dervishes of America was the introduction to the Dervishes of Turkey. While visiting and touring with the Order on three separate visits to Turkey, I met people in all walks of life, all connected with a common belief. One of the things that never fails to amaze me is how different a country or region is than portrayed by the news media. News media fills up hours of time rotating news of the horrors of this world. The communities and people I have met in my travels show another view–of families coming together to build lives, playing together, helping their friends and neighbors, enjoying one another’s company and simply working to build a life that is filled with joy and fulfillment. That is one of the things I love about the photos I captured–they show just that.
